Common Induction Program
Common Induction Program 2014
A common induction program for the new batches of B.Sc. and M.Sc. Economics students as well as SICSR students was held on 17th July, 2014. The Program was presided over by Mr. Rathin Roy, Director, NIPFP. Dr. Mrs. Vidya Yeravdekar, Principal Director of Symbiosis Society, Dr. Rajani Gupte, Vice Chancellor of SIU, Dr. Jyoti Chandiramani, Director, SSE and Mr. Lalith Kathpalia, Director, SICSR also attended the function.
Mr. Rathin Roy delivered an insightful speech on Co-operative federalism and he caught the attention of the students with a lucid and graphic presentation on the same. His lecture made some interesting commencement reflections on cooperative federalism. He explained basic economic concepts of public goods, consumption and savings, revenue and fiscal deficit and gave relevant references to the current situation in India. A comparison between the spending expenditure of the central and state governments revealed that state governments are better managers of public money. He demonstrated how our GDP cannot grow unless firms borrow from foreigners and how that causes the current account deficit to go up. Co-operative federalism provides a solution by advocating people to spend wisely and to deposit their savings in banks. It also asks the Centre to focus on spending on national public goods and give more taxes to States
