Dr. Jyoti Chandiramani

Prof Jyoti Chandiramani has over 30 years of experience in Teaching, Institution Building, Administration, and Research. Presently, she teaches – International Trade Policy, International Organization and Regional Cooperation and Urban Economic Development at the Masters level. She has conducted more than 50 Management Development Programs for corporates, such as WIPRO, AZTEC, HP, Intel, Godrej, Zensar Technologies, WNS, Cognizant, EXL, Deloitte, Deutsche Bank, Continum Solutions, Dr. Reddy’s etc. Prof Jyoti has been a founder core member of the Symbiosis Centre for Liberal Arts.
In 2007, she was awarded a short-term scholarship at the University of DePauw, Indianapolis – to study Liberal Arts Education. In 2013, she was a part of the Indian delegation to Pakistan for the Tenth South Asian Economic Students Meet (SAESM) at Lahore University of Management Sciences, and in 2015, she has been conferred with the iCongo instituted Gold Karmaveer Chakra and Rex Karmaveer Global Fellowship in Delhi, for her contributions to the field of education. Recently, she was invited to the 5th ASEM Rectors’ Conference and as a Mentor for the Students’ Forum (ARC5, organized by Charles University in Prague and the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) at Prague.
Prof Jyoti Chandiramani research interest lies in the urban economic development and international economic cooperation. She has steered and focussed the activities at the Symbiosis School of Economics in this direction. To this effect, a course on Urban Economic Development has been introduced in the Masters Programme since 2014 (Specialisation: Development Studies). Besides writing a couple of textbooks, she has jointly edited a book with Ramanath Jha on ‘Perspectives in Urban Development: Issues in Infrastructure, Planning, and Governance.’ Her areas of research interest in urban include Urban Infrastructure, Urban Transport, Urban Poverty and is presently working on Pune centric cases. Besides she keenly studies and follows trends in International Development Cooperation –from the MDGs to the SDGs.

Debdulal is currently an Associate Professor with the Symbiosis School of Economics (SSE), Pune. Prior to joining SSE he has successfully served several institutes of national and international repute in various capacities. For example, BITS-Pilani (K.K. Birla Goa Campus), Pricewaterhouse Coopers Pvt.Ltd, Natioanl Institute of Public Finance & Policy (NIPFP, New Delhi), Centre for Budget & Governance Accountability (CBGA, New Delhi), to mention a few.
Debdulal prefers to call him a socio-economist by choice. He has extensively worked in the areas of fiscal policy, budgets, urban finance and economics of education for the last 11 - 12 years. Debdulal co-authored a number of project based reports funded by the UNDP, UNICEF, ADB, DFID related to budgets, public expenditure, especially related to strengthening the fiscal and governance position of the urban local bodies in India. He is a life member of "The Indian Econometric Society' (TIES).
He has been trained (by invitation) at the ‘Intermediate Budget Workshop’ held at Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania ( 2007),organized by-IBP (Wasington DC), Funder (Mexico).He was also selected to attend the Roundtable on India Municipal Finance Study organized by KIPF-NIPFP-GOI at Seoul, Korea and delivered a short lecture on designing methodologies for India municipal finance study. He also delivered papers at the 42nd Annual Conference of the Indian Econometric Society and various other prestigious academic platforms. To add, he has specific contribution in the urban reforms of the nation. He has a number of publications in his field of expertise (local body finance & budgets). He also contributes invited/ bi-monthly/quarterly columns on fiscal issues in prestigious journals/magazines like SAARC Journal of Transport, Logistics Times, Competition 360 degree (Outlook Group) etc. He is fluent in English, Bengali and Hindi. In leisure he prefers to watch theaters and travel. Debdulal is married and has a daughter.

Shrabani is an Associate Professor with the Symbiosis School of Economics (on Leave from Madras School of Economics, Chennai). Apart from teaching and research, she also handled important administrative responsibilities as faculty advisor for post graduate studies at the Madras School of Economics (MSE). Other than Madras School of Economics she also held faculty positions in several academic institutes of national and international repute. For example, Department of Economics, Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS)-Pilani (K.K. Birla Goa Campus), National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER, New Delhi). She had also served the Prime Ministers Economic Advisory Council (PMEAC) as a consultant during the second UPA regime. For a short while she has also earned industry experience with the Public Finance unit of the Government Reforms and Infrastructure Development (GRID) division of Pricewaterhouse Coopers Pvt Ltd. She was also associated with National Institute of Public Finance and policy (NIPFP, New Delhi) Shrabani has earned an M.Phil and Ph.D degree from Centre for Economic Studies and Planning (CESP), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). She has published number of articles/chapters in peer reviewed national and international journals and edited books and anonymous reviewer of international journals. She attended several conferences of the Indian Econometric Society and attended trainings on advanced econometrics conducted by renowned International experts on the subject, given talks as resource person in UGC national level seminars.

Mr. Krishna Kanta Roy is NET and SET qualified and he has done his Post Graduation in Economics and is currently pursuing M.Phil in Economics from University of Pune. He has done his B.Sc Economics (Honours) from Calcutta University. He has 3.5 years of corporate experience with companies like CMIE, ValueNotes, etc. Currently, he is working as Programme-In-Charge (B.Sc). Additionally, Mr. Roy handles the sports activities, admissions and exam related work at SSE. His areas of interest are Poverty, Microfinance, Rural Development, Welfare Economics and Stock Markets. He is a member of Royal Economic Society (UK) and also a life member of Indian Economic Association.

Ishita Ghosh has been a faculty member associated with various academic institutions in Pune, especially with the Symbiosis International University and the University of Pune. She has been with SSE for almost seven years now. With over fifteen years of work experience, Ishita has a Masters in Economics – specialized in Trade – and is UGC NET qualified. Ishita has worked on urban policy and planning for Maharashtra with special emphasis on Energy, Economic Policy, and Governance. Her Ph.D. focuses on trade in services and the latter day new-new trade theories. Ishita teaches Research Methodology, Trade and related courses, Macroeconomics, Economic Journalism, Public Finance and Econometrics and handles the students’ journal at SSE, Oeconomica Scriptis. She is currently the Joint Programme in Charge, MSc Economics and takes care of academic review and examinations, as well. Ishita has also had a brief stint in the corporate as an analyst and business developer, prior to her full-time academic career. She has also worked in NGOs and Think Tanks for a short while, as well. Music, reading, travelling, food, watching movies, fine art, languages and animal welfare are some of Ishita's passions and hobbies.

Ms. Khushbu B. Thadani is associated with SSE for more than four years now. She is pursuing her Ph.D. from University of Pune in the domain on Health Economics. She has done her Bachelors in Economics from St Mira’s College, Pune, and Masters in Economics from Fergusson College, Pune. She has been a rank holder and a topper throughout starting from her board exams in Shillong to her Bachelor and Masters in Economics in Pune. She has cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) and her areas of interest are Development Economics, Health Economics, Industrial Economics, Indian Economy, Microeconomics and issues related to the Urbanization process. At present, she is an Assistant Professor and teaches Development Economics, Industrial Economics and Indian Economy in SSE. Apart from academics, she is the Faculty in charge for International Initiatives at the institute and the moderator for the college website. Ms. Khushbu is an ardent follower of yoga and meditation and an avid reader of philosophy.

Dr. Savita Kulkarni has obtained her doctoral degree from the Department of Economics, University of Mumbai in September 2014. Her area of specialization is Development Economics, Game Theory, and Experimental Economics. Her doctoral thesis elaborates on bargaining between economic decision-making units at informal institutional levels by employing an experimental game theory approach.
Savita has presented research papers at various national and international Conferences and has publications in prestigious academic journals including the Economic and Political Weekly (EPW) to her credit. She has also been awarded second position in the “National Research Student Convention: Anveshan 2013” organized by the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi. She has administered various laboratory experimental studies in economics and behavioral economics for the Centre for Computational Social Sciences, University of Mumbai the University of Warrick. She pursued her Masters’ degree in Economics from the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune in June 2006. Savita has also worked as a research analyst with corporate institutions including CARE Ratings and IRIS Business Services Ltd. for a noteworthy period of three years after her post-graduation

Dr. Ranjan Kumar Dash is working as Assistant Professor at Symbiosis School of Economics and holds Ph.D. and M.Phil. in economics with a specialization in financial economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University. He has completed his postgraduate degree in economics from University of Hyderabad, with specializing in econometrics, international trade and finance, economic growth, money and financial intermediaries. Dr. Dash has more than ten years of research experience at various institutions like Institute of Economic Growth (IEG), National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) and Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), New Delhi.
He has also more than one year of industrial experience at IPE Global, New Delhi. Dr. Dash has published more than a dozen academic articles in reputed international refereed journals such as the World Economy, Economic Modelling, Empirical Economics, Journal of policy modeling, Journal of International Trade and Economic Development, Journal international trade, and Singapore economic review. He has also published two books in financial economics and international economics of current topical relevance by the reputed publisher, Springer. He has also refereed many articles for international Journals. His areas of research interest are financial economics, international trade, Growth, applied econometrics, and development economics.

Sebin B Nidhiri completed his BA in Economics from Loyola College, Chennai and went on to do his M.Sc Economics with specialisation in Development Studies from Symbiosis School of Economics during which time he qualified NET. While a student, Sebin worked with diverse organisations such as Goldman Sachs, Centre for Development Studies, National Institute of Urban Affairs, Bhumi etc. He was formerly a Programme Officer at Public Affairs Centre, Bangalore wherein he travelled to villages across the country organising Gram Sabhas and training villagers in order to improve citizen engagement in the governance process. He has co-authored a manual for citizen engagement in infrastructure monitoring. At SSE, Sebin teaches courses on Statistics and Econometrics. He is empanelled with the Symbiosis Centre for Corporate Education to teach Business Statistics. His research interests are in Behavioural Economics and Urban Governance.

Dr. Varun Miglani has completed his Ph.D. (Economics) from Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE), Pune in August 2016. His area of specialization is Agricultural Economics and Rural Development. His doctoral thesis explored the participation aspects of contract farming in Maharashtra. He has presented research papers at the national conferences of Indian Society of Agricultural Economics and Indian Society of Agricultural Marketing. Prior to joining SSE, he worked as Research Fellow at Agro-Economic Research Centre, GIPE for eight months. He has taught courses viz. Basic Statistics and Data Analysis using SPSS at GIPE as well as Research Methodology and International Trade at Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce, Pune. He completed His M.A. (Economics) from the University of Mumbai in 2008. Dr. Dipankar Das has completed “Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship” in Economics in 2016 from Rabindranath Tagore Centre for Human Development Studies, Institute of Development Studies Kolkata, University of Calcutta, sponsored by the University Grants Commission of India (UGC India). The title of the Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship “Monograph” is “Economics of Risk Preference, Strategic Behaviour and Inequality: A Study in Agriculture-Food Systems Under Changing World”. He has completed his Ph.D. from The University of Burdwan, India in 2015. The title of his Ph.D. thesis is “Impact of Corporate Investment on Trading of Agricultural Commodities: A Study of Select Districts of West Bengal”. He holds M.Com. from The University of Burdwan with specialization in Finance and M.A. in Economics from Indira Gandhi National Open University with specialization in Econometrics and Actuarial Economics: Theory and Practice. His research interest lies in the fields of Industrial Organization, Vertical Restraints, Competition Policy and Applied Fuzzy Mathematics. He is also working in the interdisciplinary field, especially in the field of “Trust in Transaction”. He teaches Mathematical Economics to both undergraduate and postgraduate. He is also a faculty member at Centre for Quantitative Learning and Applications of Symbiosis School of Economics (SSE). Prior to joining SSE, he has been teaching in a college, under University of Calcutta, as a lecturer in Economics. He also has experience of teaching in a B-School and also as Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) in Kendriya Vidyalaya. Dr. Das has presented several research papers at national and international conferences. He has also published several articles in Journals, book chapters from both national and internal publishers. He has supervised students of undergraduate course under University of Calcutta for their undergraduate projects.

Kritika Sen is working as an Assistant Professor at Symbiosis School of Economics. She qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) in December 2015. She has pursued M.Sc. (Economics) from Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune and B.Com (Hons) from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University. She has interned at the Internal Debt Management Department, Reserve Bank of India and has one year corporate experience at Deloitte AERS India Private Limited in the Analytics function involving work streams such as econometric model validation. Her interest areas are Econometrics, Micro economics, Development economics and Labour economics. She is currently teaching Intermediary Econometrics and Micro Economics and is engaged in research.

Dr. Bidyut Kumar Ghosh

Dr. Bidyut Kumar Ghosh is working as Assistant Professor at Symbiosis School of Economics and obtains his M.Phil and Ph.D in Economics from the University of Burdwan. He was a JRF in the Economics department of the University of Burdwan for a period of four years to pursue his PhD. His PhD topic was “Growth and Cropping Pattern Changes in West Bengal Agriculture during 1970-71 to 2005-06” which has also been published as a book titled “Agricultural Growth and Agrarian Relations” by Serial Publications, New Delhi. He has completed his postgraduate degree in Economics from the same university with specialization in Statistics and Econometrics. Dr. Ghosh has more than ten years of teaching and research experience both at the national and international level. Prior to joining Symbiosis School of Economics, he has working as Assistant Professor in Wolaita Sodo University, Ethiopia.
His teaching areas include Econometrics, Statistics, Research Methods using R, Eviews and Stata. Dr. Ghosh has published many research articles in reputed national international refereed journals such as the Indian Journal of Social Work, ICFAI Journal of Agricultural Economics, IASSI Quartely, Bangladesh Development Studies etc. on the topics of agricultural growth, crop diversification and rural development. He has also authored two books in Agricultural economics. His areas of research interest covers agricultural and resource economics, rural development and financial economics. He has also keen interest in interdisciplinary research works covering Business Management, Sociology and Travel and Tourism management.

Ms. Deepika Chawla has submitted her Ph.D. thesis in the subject of Economics to Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics in 2015. She is a member of International Input-Output Association (IIOA) and Input-Output Research Association (IORA, India). She is the only candidate to be certified for completing International School of Input-Output Analysis (ISIOA)’s module on Dynamic Input-output Analysis for the year 2012. Beyond trade (Input-output analysis) and development economics, she has published paper(s) in Urban Economics. She is experienced to teach the courses of Mathematical Economics, Time Series Analysis using EViews and Micro Economics. Her students include ISS officers, students of Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, research staff and students of University of Pune, students of Fergusson College, etc.. Mr. Pranav Raj has completed MSc. Financial Economics from Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune in July 2017. Prior to this, he worked with Ernst and Young for 3 years and 9 months and was based out of Gurgaon. He did B.A (Hons.) Economics from Hans raj College, University of Delhi in July 2011. Have also cleared NET-JRF exam held on 22nd January 2017 conducted by UGC.
In leisure time, he like reading books, columns and opinions on economic issues with a keen focus on social and rural topics. Travel and adventure are the two things which he enjoy a lot.

Ms. Sushma Nayak is presently working as a Visiting Faculty with Symbiosis School of Economics (SSE), a constituent of Symbiosis International University (SIU). In addition to Masters and M.Phil in Economics, she also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Supply Chain Management. She has 8 years of teaching experience at SSE and has taught more than 12 different courses relating to Economics and Finance. Presently, she teaches Indian Banking & Financial System and Economic Journalism to the undergraduates. She is a key member of the Centre for Academic Writing at SSE, which assists students in writing essays, editorials, columns, papers and reports. She also works towards the making of Oeconomica Scriptis an in-house publication of SSE which is a compilation of outstanding academic writings by students. Her subjects of interest include Population Studies, Banking & Finance, Managerial Economics, Public Finance, Theory of Political Economy and Supply Chain Management.

Gargi Patil completed her Bachelors and Masters in Economics from Fergusson College, Pune, India, in June 2012 and May 2014 respectively. In September 2014, she enrolled as a full-time PhD scholar at Symbiosis International University (SIU) and is currently working as Visiting Faculty in the Department of Economics at Symbiosis School of Economics (SSE). Her area of research is Urban Finance and her PhD thesis is based on the same. She has attended a number of conferences and seminars and has a few papers published. Recently, she has published a chapter titled “Crowdfunding - Can it Support Urban Local Bodies in India?” in the book named “Crowdfunding and Sustainable Urban Development in Emerging Economies” published by IGI Global. Her area of interest includes Urban Economics, Public Policy and Micro Economics.

Prajakti is passionate about teaching mathematics and statistics, teaching for more than 18 years now and dealing with students of different faculties like science, MBA, MCA, BBA, CPT , B.Com and also various school level students and teachers. Developed short term courses in mathematics for students who want to learn fundamental and conceptual mathematics, write from basics. Conducted workshops on innovative and Vedic mathematics in India and also in UK. Taught community mathematics in UK (Milton Keynes), currently working as a member of board of studies for Balbharati for designing mathematics textbooks for 8th and 10th standard.

Masters in Environmental Science
Mr. Shashikant Nehul completed his Masters in Environmental Science from Department of Environmental Sciences, Savitribai Phule Pune University in June 2010. In September 2010, he enrolled as research scholar in National Air Monitoring Program, funded by Government of India at Savitribai Phule Pune University. Presently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. in “Air pollution and climate change” from Savitribai Phule Pune University. He was awarded the European Union-Erasmus mundus scholarship for doctoral studies at Uppsala university, Sweden. He is serving as a visiting faculty at Symbiosis School of Economics, Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences, MAAER’s College of Commerce. He also served as a guest faculty for the subject of Environmental Studies at University of Mumbai and Salisbury University, USA. In addition to this, he also provides consultancy service in the field of Environment Sciences and had also written various articles for newspapers like Times of India. Mr. Nehul had also qualified the SET exam in the subject of Environmental Sciences and holds a teaching experience of 7 years.

Naim Keruwala is an urban governance practitioner with a decade long experience of working with Governments and Not for profit organizations in India and abroad. He holds a Masters in Economics from Pune University, a certificate in Public Economics from National Institute of Public Finance & Policy, a certificate in Inclusive Cities from The Hague Academy for Local Governance, a Diploma in Business Management from Ahmedabad Education Society and Bachelors in Commerce from Gujarat University. He is the recipient of Nuffic NFP scholarship by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and IVLP Scholarship by the US Department of State. Zahra Jeena
Ms. Zahra Jeena is a professional architect and urban planner. She completed her bachelors’ degree in Architecture from University of Pune and went on to pursue a masters’ degree in City and Regional Planning from Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. She worked as a planner for a multi-disciplinary consulting engineering, planning and surveying firm before returning to India. Her realm of interest is widespread, with a focus on not only land use, planning, urban design and infrastructure; but also on policy and programs that address equity, inclusiveness and economic development. At SSE, she teaches topics on Urban Planning and Development.

Ms. Tanya Duckworth
Tanya Mary Duckworth studied her Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics (Honours) from St. Stephen’s College in Delhi, immediately following up with her Master’s of Science in Pure Mathematics from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom. She specialises within a section of pure mathematics called Abstract Algebra, concentrating on Group Theory,and wrote her Master’s thesis on the famous O’Nan-Scott Theorem,discussing its proof and investigating its applications. She is currently working as a teaching assistant at the Symbiosis School of Economics taking the Foundations of Mathematics course for first year BSc. Economics (Honours) students. She is extremely athletic and has played for the women’s basketball team of St. Stephen’s College,which was ranked number one in Delhi in 2013-14. She has now moved onto other forms of fitness, in particular,marathon running and is very keen on triathlons as well. Ms. Ashlesha Khedekar-Swaminathan is a former banker. She has more than ten years of experience in the banking industry. She has worked in the Treasury departments of ABN AMRO Bank NV and HDFC Bank Ltd, in the area of Foreign Exchange & Interest Rate Risk management. As Head of the Corporate Training Centre at Foundation for Liberal & Management Education, for three years, she has designed and coordinated numerous leadership & managerial development programs for a large number of organizations. She has been teaching at various colleges in Pune for the last seven years.
